Dental negligence
Dental negligence is where a patient has received substandard care from a dental professional, leading to harm, injury, or other adverse outcomes. Dental negligence claims typically arise when a dentist or dental care provider fails to meet the expected standard of care, causing harm to the patient.
Examples of dental negligence may include:
- Misdiagnosis or Delayed Diagnosis: Failing to properly diagnose dental conditions, such as cavities, gum disease, or oral cancer, in a timely manner.
- Treatment Errors: Mistakes made during dental procedures, such as errors in administering anaesthesia, performing extractions, or placing dental implants.
- Infection Control Failures: Neglecting proper control measures can lead to the spread of infections.
- Failure to Obtain Informed Consent: Not providing patients with sufficient information about the risks and benefits of a dental procedure before obtaining their consent.
- Negligent Orthodontic Treatment: Inadequate or improper orthodontic care that causes harm to the patient.
